I don't have much to say today, except:
- I am so tired of rain. I know I'll regret saying that when we have yet another drought this summer, but COME ON! If the temp was just a few degrees lower it would all be snow. And I know some of you (SJ) are getting tired of the snow, but it would at least be a heck of a lot prettier. Just about anything is prettier than mud.
- I'm working on our taxes, which is always a crapshoot around here since Hubby is ordained and therefore taxed as "self-employed." Basically, for you non-ministry families, that means that we pay all of his Social Security and such after the fact. No extreme amount of withholding has seemed to grant us a refund since he was ordained four years ago. Last year we at least got closer to breaking even, but somehow none of my part-time paychecks went to federal taxes this year, so we might as well start writing our check now. Sigh.
- I don't have anything profound to write myself, but I did want to share this article by Sally Jenkins of the Washington Post. It is about Tim Tebow and the Superbowl ad controversy. Of course, the ad was benign- I'd even call it sweet, so the controversy has all but died down. But I still think the dialogue it brought to attention deserves, well, more attention. As a woman, a Democrat, a Christian, and someone who believes in the sanctity of all life, I grow weary of everyone assuming the worst about "the other side," digging in their heels and refusing to work together. I think we need more people- in the church, the capital, and the press- willing to see things from the other side. Jenkins did just that.
- Did I mention that I want it to stop raining?

Thanks for sharing the article. It opened my eyes a bit (I won't get into it here...perhaps later and privately).
And yes, it's time for the rain to go and the sun to visit for a while!
I feel your number 2. . . and change raining to snowing and i'm right there with you for 1 and 4! :-) Hang in there!
Tracy- I'd love to talk more about your impressions of the article sometime. I know it is a very important issue to you.
Lela- I think we MIGHT actually be getting a decent refund this year. It has only taken us four years to figure out this self-employed thing! (knock on wood...)
Yay, a blog shout-out! :) Ohhhh so sick of the snow, but now that it's done, I'm appreciating the downtime :) I know I won't get this for a LONG time!
Thanks for sharing that article. It was an interesting read. Also let me know if you've figured out how to get a refund with this self-employment thing, we'd like to know!!
SJ- it was supposed to be more of a shout-out than that. Somehow I messed up the hyperlink. Corrections are forthcoming.
Deb- We have just upped our withholdings until they were ridiculously high. With only one (and a quarter) income, we're not great at saving much so we'd rather give more during the year than be taken by surprise with a BIG expense at tax time. And we also bought a new car this year (you get to deduct the taxes you paid), and have two children. But it is tricky! Who knows about next year!
