Monday Morning

We've had a quiet morning, my favorite girls and I. It has included reading, lots of laundry, and more PBS kids than is probably advisable (but Jimmy Fallon was on Sesame Street and it was fabulous!). It has also included some very interesting dress-up outfits from Big Sister:

This is her pirate outfit- complete with veil. When she exclaimed, "No one else has a pirate veil!" I definitely had to agree with her. She had a dollhouse coat rack for her sword and made a map with an x marking the spot, in search of buried treasure.

If by "treasure" she meant "gigantic mess" I think she found it.

Later, after lunch, I came out of the laundry room to find her sweeping and scrubbing things in this delightful ensemble:

Because at our house, we always roll up our sleeves velour track pants and put on our heels before doing heavy cleaning.

Later, she was a bride. And finally, this:

I think UK should change their official colors to blue, white, and sparkly pink.

I got another picture of her in this outfit, which I am also going to post for her photo on the left column of my blog. It is rare to get a snapshot of her beautiful face without some silly pose or forced smile. But today I got lucky:

Little Sister played a lot too, although her playtime was marked with more frustration than creativity. She loves to play with her sister's dollhouse, but her toddler hands just can't make the pieces do what she has in mind. She spent more than twenty minutes trying to get the babies in and out of their little high chairs. If Big Sis or I did it for her (after she fussed and cried for "Hup!") she would have to redo it herself.

Big Sister was very patient and helpful, even when Little Sis was biting everything in sight...

SO, rather than complaining about Little Sister's short fuse (which is directly related, I'm sure, to her icky cough and plugged up nose) I am going to just be thankful that they are not ganging up on me with grumpiness. I'm happy to have a nice day with Big Sister, especially given our recent drama.

I'm also thankful for some sweet snuggle time I got with Little Sister before her nap. Since I haven't gotten very flattering pics of her today (I seriously have one of her biting the armrest cover from the recliner...) here is one from a few weeks ago, just to even out the photos.

See? It all balances out. Just when you're ready to sell your kids to gypsies, you're reminded how cute they are. How much fun they can be. How, er... creatively they can dress. And how blessed you really are to get to spend so much time with them.

And hopefully this balances out the slightly desperate post from last night. Although, I still DO really want (and, in a tiny way, need) to see some more comments...so, what are you waiting for? Click on over there!

If you got to clean in heals I like that she did it in shiny red ones. I think she needs to go w/ a more fitted t-shirt though if she's going to try to pull the heals off w/ casual clothing. :)
Love the post

Drew would not, but I agree with adding sparkly pink to UK colors! Avery actually almost spelled out CATS tonight cheering for the game. It was a big moment for him!

I just found your blog because of Kevinthecoolguy. I have been following you for the past few weeks. I LOVE your blog. I am a new mommy-Baby P will be 6 months old next week. He is the first for my husband and me. I noticed in your blogs lately how you sound a little "blue" wondering if any reads your blog. Please know that YES we are out here and reading. And YES your candid thoughts and real life point of view about motherhood is appreciated. Please keep writing. I actually just signed up as a follower so I could post this comment to you. You just seemed like you needed the encouragement. Thanks again for your posts-they make me smile!

Brooke- hubby said he wanted me to remind everyone that we are NOT, in fact, UK fans. Actually, the cheerleader outfit came from your in-laws! But I was in KY when they won the national championship in 98 and MANY of my friends are Cats fans, so I have a soft spot in my heart for them...

Christy- Nice to meet you! Thanks for the encouragement. Congrats on new-mommyhood. The good FAR outweighs the "blue" :)

Deb- of course you would love the red. ;)

I wouldn't want people to misplace John in the UK fan arena. I know that would be hard for him. It is still a good color to be in......brings out her eyes! :-) Avery has a uniform herself.....she isn't allowed to have another team even talked about around her!
